It is usually possible to defer an offer but this is at the discretion on the relevant academic department and is not possible in all cases. If a deferral is not possible we will reply to your email to confirm this and you may still take up your offer for the original intake if you wish.

Qualifications/Entry Requirements:
Entry to postgraduate taught courses (Postgraduate Diploma, MA, MSc etc) usually requires a UK Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent qualification from a country outside of the UK.
Some courses require a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject, and some courses may allow entry on the basis of professional qualifications in place of academic requirements. Some courses may also require relevant work experience.
Entry to postgraduate research courses (MRes, MPhil, PhD etc) usually requires a UK Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject, or an equivalent qualification from a country outside of the UK, and in some cases a Master’s degree or other postgraduate qualification.
Some courses may also accept relevant work experience in place of further postgraduate study.

In order to undertake a course of study at the University you will need to demonstrate that you have a good level of written and spoken English. You can demonstrate your level of English with IELTS/TOEFL/PTE or alternative qualifications.

European students are also required to provide evidence of English proficiency through a recognised test or qualification.
If you have graduated at degree level or above from a recognised institution at which English is the primary language of instruction/assessment less than 2 years prior to the start of your course of study with the University of Birmingham you may be exempt from the English language requirement. Check your application status:
You can sign in to your applicant portal (opens in a new tab) and check the status of your application; you will need your applicant ID number or the email address with which you applied as your username.
We aim to make a decision on postgraduate applications within 4-6 weeks, though this can take longer during busy periods and for postgraduate research applications in which a suitable supervisor is not specified in the application.

If you have also been invited to manage your teacher training applications on our Admissions Portal you will also be able to check there. The timings will vary for each applicant and can depend on whether we have a query about your application. The invitation email will be sent to the email address you used when you submitted your application to the DfE.
